When objects meet water there is a big chance to get reflections. To maximize the effect I compose the pictures virtually two-dimensional, just like looking straight into a mirror. This way the reflections are balanced nicely left and right.

The art of the mirror
Calm water
Reflections need still water. I often wait for the wind to drop, early or late in the day.
Straight on
Standing square to the subject gives symmetry. The upside-down world below becomes part of the picture.

About some of these photos

Locked in stone arches
Sluis nr. 16 – Weert – Netherlands. The current lock dates from 1932. It was built in the functionalist style and has a length of 80 meters with steel lifting doors on either side that are suspended between two lifting towers.

Mondriaan Molen – Abcoude – Netherlands
Original name was Oostzijdse Molen. However the famous painter Piet Mondriaan captured this mill more than 20 times. Hence it now bears his name.
